Highlights from Millers Rentals Meeting 11-18-1998
This is an overview of the meeting not the official minutes. Minutes tend to be dry and cannot impart the feel of a meeting. This one felt great!
Steve Kohn and his crew at Millers did a bang up job preparing for ARA-NJ members. If you had to come to the meeting hungry, you didnt go home hungry. An outstanding selection of hot and cold food was available as were a variety of beverages. The Millers warehouse was converted into what might best be described as a bar and grill or night club. As members ate and mingled a TV flashed images of Rodeo Day. Large round tables were set about (for round table discussions?) and members took advantage of them to sit and eat, drink and socialize. The ambiance was great.
Most of us would have been happy if the evening continued in the same vein but President Tony Perrotta brought us back to reality and called us to order just before eight oclock to get to the business at hand. The meeting was relatively painless with reports from the treasurer and committee chairman. We learned about upcoming events and were given a chance to discuss "old business" (none) and "new business" (none).
The came time for the evening's programs billed as Round Table Discussions. There were 3, each led by someone knowledgeable in his area. The topics were, "Communicating with Workers in the Field," led by Tom Lade; "Setting up a Web Page," led by Steve Kohn: and "Horror Stories," led by Brian Higgins (do you know an insurance man who doesnt have a string of horror stories?).
Each discussion was held at its own round table made up of about 10 members each and they were held simultaneously. The discussions ran for 20 minutes and then the leaders switched tables to guide their topic with another group. They switched 3 times so every one in attendance listened to and had input into each topic.
It worked beautifully and members seemed pleased. Its interesting to note that regular members in attendance far out numbered associate members at this meeting an ideal situation for the associates who were there.
It was a successful meeting by any measure. Wait until you hear whats coming up next time well probably have to take reservations!
Here are some photo's from the meeting.
